G'day mate. How's it going everyone? Today, I'm gonna be sharing some tips regarding the ways of speaking skills with you. Speaking skills lead to everything as I mentioned before. Let's dive into it.
The first tip is: Try to skirt around the topic that you're discussing, which is perfectly fine, and rather more important than always intermittently pausing or stopping talking. Why? Because, even if you run out of juice or what you wanna say, you should even try to say something differently. Skirting around something is like beating about the bush. That is, you're digressing from the main point, or talking about some irrelevant things, which is in fact one of the most effective ways to expand your talk. And, it leads you to boost your speaking skills. So, don't worry about things that you are talking, even if it's unrelated things. Many native speakers in fact do so all the time. Although they are seemingly talking about the right thing, it is actually not pertinent to what you expect to hear. Does it make sense? Just talk, talk and talk.
Second, making something up is also a useful method to boost your speaking skills. That is, you could invent a story even if that is not really true, which is entirely ok. Of course, in the case of tribunal or litigation like law-related arenas, doing so leads you to face serious consequences. But otherwise, you can make up your own stories if you are stuck in the middle of your conversation with someone. This method is beneficial for those who need to improve the skills of idea generation, or overall speaking skills.
Last but not least, you need to have the skills to paraphrase words or sentences. This has a significant impact on your speaking and writing skills. Memorising English words is absolutely an endless task for everyone, so you should get the most out of the acquired words that you are used to. Not many people can use too fancy or sophisticated words perfectly. To the best of my knowledge, the use of highly sophisticated or too abstract words is not needed for daily conversation unless you are required to talk about academic or esoteric topics, in which case you will probably need to be able to explain something in academic parlance. Otherwise, you don't really need. So, what you've got to do is to learn all patterns of suffixes that construct conjugated words or types of speech. This is of critical importance. For instance, when you see the sentence like, 'Bank of American has already been nationalised by the Biden Administration.' Regarding this type of sentence, how would you be able to paraphrase this? Like the word 'nationalise', which is verb, but what about noun? An example answer would be like 'The nationalisation of Bank of America has already been done by the Biden Administration.' Something like that. How simple is that? If you know well about suffixes, then there won't be any issue at all, right? You just need to tweak a bit such as adding articles, changing verbs, etc.
In a nutshell, your speaking skills could be improved by three major trainings: namely, talking about irrelevant things fluently and confidently; inventing a bit fabricated story if you can't come up with any specific idea; and paraphrasing words and sentences. I'm doing these three things all the time. Of course, I don't do so at all if the topic is a serious one, or legal matters. Good luck with your English learning journey.
