G'day mate, how's it going? Today, what I'm gonna discuss is "How you say is far more important than what you say". This is crucially important for every English learner. But it doesn't mean that I underestimate the relative importance of the contents that you wanna say. Let's get into it.
Of course, if you don't have any issue in terms of pronunciation and oral fluency, then you may go ahead! However, not many English learners are like this. So, in terms of "how you say", you want your listener to hear and understand exactly what you wanna say, right? Without these preconditions, your listener will probably have to strain to understand you even if you are saying important things. The thing is not just your pronunciation but also oral fluency such as rhythm, intonation, phrasing, speed as well. A couple of aspects are involved in the realm of "how you say". Definitely, you've got to make an effort to reconcile the gap between what you say and how you say.
Another aspect that needs to be noted is that you shouldn't misunderstand the relationship between pronunciation + oral fluency and contents. Clear contents will apparently derive from a clear pronunciation and good oral fluency. In other words, even if you try to say important things, your listener won't be able to understand the details of what you wanted to say due to too many inaccurate and unclear pronunciations with too many hesitations and odd pauses. I understand everyone sometimes hesitates and makes some odd pauses, but should not persist throughout your talk. This is the point that I wanna reiterate. And, so you need to get trained quite a lot to make sure you could minimise the frequency of hesitation and unnecessary pause. This is attainable for everyone if you try to train yourself and do self-analysis and self-appraisal, which has an immense effect on the progression of your speaking proficiency.
Then, how do we do this? Well, please try to say some simple sentences without stopping and making odd pauses and hesitations, which can only be done by everyday practice. There is no doubt that no one including native speakers can achieve a certain level of spoken performance without proper practice. Yeah, so it's up to you mate whether you wanna be successful or not.
Thanks for reading my blog today. Have a good one!
