What are the important things for smooth communication in English?

G'day, how are you going mate? Today, I am going to be touching upon some of the most important things if you want to communicate with each other in English. It is extremely important for us to make sure you continuously practise how to speak and what to say, simultaneously ensuring you are always careful about things you are saying whether or not they might affect your listener positively or negatively. Then, let's elaborate further.

Making sure you should be able to explain difficult things in a simpler way without using fancy or big words

Keeping it simple is one of the most important things you should prioritise in the first place. As you know, not many people are like you, I mean, some people can easily understand you even if you use so many esoteric terms because they might have already had prior knowledge. However, some doesn't have, in which case you are going to be in trouble. The worst case scenario would be losing your friends. So, good communicator should have the ability to adjust your tones to whom you talk. If you are talking to university professors, then you'll use more academic and formal-toned language, whereas you won't use them if you talk to your friends, or coworkers at your workplace. They'd probably be annoyed or even discombobulated.

Making sure you should use some body language in conjunction with some fillers effectively

Even if you are talking to someone over the telephone, you might still use some body language when it's necessary. Invisibility doesn't necessarily mean your listener can't perceive any feeling. It does actually work even if you can't really notice. That's why telephone conversation tends to be much harder for non-native speakers to convey their feelings or things to their listeners due to the paucity of appropriate body language. And also, using fillers are fruitful when it comes to filling the gap, I mean, if you are stuck as to what to say during your conversation, you can use fillers in an effective way. Overusing them tend to irritate your listeners sometimes. Or ultimately, they ruin your conversation.

Making sure you have kept polishing listening comprehension skills under the condition that you've already mastered all 44 phonemic sounds

Just output-oriented study is not enough to be able to boost your communication skills. Input training such as listening is critical to your communication in English. In terms of listening training, there are obviously two streams you should be able to tackle. One is listening comprehension, and another is listening skills for gaining the meanings of what to be said. First and foremost, if you are not adept at listening comprehension, then you're apparently not able to catch the meanings and implications of what to be said. If you can crystal clearly hear and understand what the speaker is talking about, then you should be able to garner the gist of what to be said. And, the precision of your pronunciation does obviously affect your comprehension.

Last but not least, making sure you don't have any phonemic sound you are often mispronouncing, and also making sure you have the ability to respond fairly quickly without thinking too much about grammar, vocab, etc.

Clear and accurate pronunciation is your first priority when it comes to English communication. You can definitely have some peculiar accent driven by the intensity of your first language's dialect, but you may try to neutralise by keeping it to a minimum. Refining pronunciation is not that hard, but reducing a particular accent is an arduous task or daunting. To this end, you don't just emulate what native speakers are saying, which doesn't really work out. More systematic way is needed to solve this problem. Please contact me if you can't refine your pronunciation, and want to solve this. And, also you need to have the ability to respond relatively quickly, otherwise your listener will probably change the topic, and you will lose the chance to talk. To solve this, your training should be more like listening comprehension, talking to yourself as well repeating sentences.

That's all for today! Thanks for reading.
