Marking 20th anniversary of 9/11

2021年9月10日

Good morning, folks. It's been already 20 years since we've seen that earth-shaking horror tragedy harking back to 11th September 2001. It was an unprecedented scene when I was watching tv at that time. It was like an invader game or something, but was unfortunately a real one. Time flies with an arrow though. Today, I'm gonna share some own experience and memory with you. Let's begin!

At the time of George W. Bush proclaiming the war against Terrorism or Al Qaida, I was in fact watching his live announcement aired by CNN. And, I remember I was recording his voice into a device for listening practice. Many people said that Bush speaks improper English making some grammar mistakes, and has a strong accent as well. But, for me it didn't matter at all, precisely because I just wanted to learn more natural tone, rhythm, intonation as well as phrases, no matter how he was despised by people in terms of his English. Of course, even at that time of my poor English skill early on I fully understood that the incumbent British Prime Minister at that time, Tony Blair, was speaking more eloquent and grammatically impeccable English. So, yes every time when Tony Blair was on tv interviewed by BBC, CNN or someone else, I was always glued to the tv watching his English. But nevertheless, I somehow liked Bush's English as well, in partial because I was kinda into both British and American pronunciation in spite of me having such insufficient English proficiency.

By the way, I still vividly remember President Bush's 48 hour ultimatum speech even now. Here is a piece of unforgettable sentence he has made in March 2003, if I remember correctly, on the eve of invasion of Iraq: "Saddam Hussein and his son must leave Iraq within 48 hours their refusal to do so will result in military conflict commenced at a time of our choosing for their own safety all foreign nationals including journalists and inspectors should leave Iraq immediately". I reckon something like that. Definitely there should have some clips available on YouTube, but I just wanted to recollect what he said, to the best of my knowledge. That moment was actually the second time for me to see realistically how war or military infiltration looked like, one the Persian Gulf War 1991 and Iraq War 2003.

All in all, if you see the reality of today's international politics and security, both terrorism and America's relentless and miscalculated military actions in the past were never justified in the realm of International Relations. And, both entities will never be triumphant either. So, although the United States was trying to pave the way for a peaceful means to solve both Iraq and Afghan issues over the last two decades, almost nothing has reached fruition. Every citizen across our planet will have to live under a relative peace but to deal with unforeseen circumstances forever. To be honest, the realisation of perpetual peace in the world whereby "Constructivism" copes with is highly doubted, and rather out of the question. In my opinion, so-called "relative peace" aforementioned previously should be the best as a means to coexist with despicable or invisible entities.

Thanks for reading my blog today. You all have a lovely weekend!
